MRSO (Mount Roosevelt Scenic Overlook) And Historic Downtown RockwoodView Larger Map This scenic trip takes you from Exit 347 on I-40 (Harriman/Rockwood) south on Hwy 27 through Rockwood. Consider stopping in Historic Downtown Rockwood for lunch or grabbing a picnic lunch before driving to the overlook. Downtown Rockwood (right at light #5) includes several restaurants, antique shops, an old-fashioned soda fountain, and live bluegrass music - all within a city block. To continue onto Mount Roosevelt turn right onto Hwy 70 and meander up the mountain, watching for the sign to turn right onto the paved road that will take you to the overlook. From the top you can see the Watts Bar Lake with the Smoky Mountains in the distance. On a clear day you can also see the windmills to the north above Oliver Springs. This is well worth the fifteen minute drive from the interstate. |
